A Homegoing - and Blog Break

Just stopping in for a few minutes to let you know that I'll be taking a break from blogging this week. Yesterday my husband's dad passed away. We are still in shock as he was in perfect health, until Saturday when he had a massive brain aneurysm.

I have been blessed with the best father-in-law that one could ever wish for. When I wonder how I ever came to have such a wonderful husband, I only need to look at his generous hard-working dad, remember how tenderly he cared for his wife and the beautiful marriage and friendship they have shared for 50 years. He made me feel like a daughter and not just an in-law and I'm so glad that I've had eight years in their family. He truly cared about people, whether it was the neighbors in his small farming community, the handicapped children he helped, or his friends from the year he spent in Ethiopia. I grieve that my children will probably not remember their big-hearted granddad.
"The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord." Job 1:21

"To be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Cor 5:6

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Rev 21:4

(I know all this in my head. Getting it to my heart is more difficult. "For we walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Cor 5:7)

  8. Thank you all. We just got back from seven hours at the viewing. I'm exhausted but it was such a blessing to see so many people who his life touched. When someone stands in a line for 2 1/2 hours just to tell you how much your father-in-law meant to them, you can't help but be overwhelmed. Keep praying for us. We still have the funeral yet, and then it is all the adjustments back to "normal" life.
    Thanks again, Gina

  10. I am so sorry for you family. I am praying for you all.

    I Thessalonians 4:13-18
13But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

  13. Gina, I am so sorry for your family's loss. I lost my father-in-law in February and am so pleased that our 3 year old still talks about him, but it is heartbreaking to think one day he won't remember his grandfather. I am reading your blog posts only now and will say a prayer for your family as you continue to deal with his loss.

  14. Sister, I have been praying for your husband. I have commented on a few of your posts. It looks like your current post (Feb. 2019), you are from Pennsylvania? I am also from Pennsylvania but live in the South now. I clicked on the linked articles and another and came to this. Oh my word! Your father-in-law looks like he could be my grandpa's brother. They look so much alike. My grandpa passed away in the early 1990's. He lived in Lebanon County. Chris W.
