Dutch Oven Gathering - 2013

It is that time of year...

Combine some hot coals, a stack of cast iron pots, and a group of friends and you have a fun evening with good food.

Last weekend was our annual dutch oven gathering. We invite everyone we know who owns a dutch oven to a cook-off.

As usual, it was a blistering hot day, made even hotter by the hot coals.

We women left the men slave over their pots while we sat in the shade and chatted.

A row of future dutch oven chefs observe!

As usual, the results were worth eating. I'm always amazed at the variety of foods that can be cooked in a dutch oven. Our plates were not big enough but I tried to take a little taste of everything!

This year the options included:

sesame chicken,

shrimp in a feta cheese sauce,

cherry cream cheese cobbler,

meat loaf,

sticky buns,

pizza,

rolled flank steak, and much more.

The vote for the favorite food proclaimed Bill the winner with his seafood chowder!

Looking forward to more good time next year!

  1. Every year I enjoy reading about this event. It looks like so much fun. Also every year I am taken by surprise because I always think this happens in October, when the days are cool, and not in July. :)

    1. Since others brought most of the food, I don't have most of the recipes.

My brother brought the pizza so I assume he used my mom's pizza crust recipe that you can find here.

You don't need a dutch oven to make it!

  6. That looks like such fun Gina. I remember reading your past post about this, and I think it would be such a fun way to do a potluck. Also, I love all the things you all have cooked in your dutch ovens... it really stirs up ideas. I love your blog and have been reading for some time, and have often recommended it to my daughters, and to friends. I mentioned your blog this week in my post on little strawberry pies, and thought you might like to know. You are a very precious treasure and and wonderful homemaker. Thank you for all of your inspiration.
    Blessings,
    Pam
