On the night before his brain surgery, Ed emailed this song to some of our friends as his testimony.
Constantly Abiding
By Anne S. Murphy
- There’s a peace in my heart that the world never gave,
A peace it cannot take away;
Though the trials of life may surround like a cloud,
I’ve a peace that has come here to stay!- Refrain:
Constantly abiding, Jesus is mine;
Constantly abiding, rapture divine;
He never leaves me lonely, whispers, oh, so kind:
“I will never leave thee”—Jesus is mine.
- Refrain:
- All the world seemed to sing of a Savior and King,
When peace sweetly came to my heart;
Troubles all fled away and my night turned to day,
Blessed Jesus, how glorious Thou art! - This treasure I have in a temple of clay,
While here on His footstool I roam;
But He’s coming to take me some glorious day,
Over there to my heavenly home!
Listen if you want to hear the tune. (If reading by email, you may need to click over to the blog to view.)
And of course I'd love to hear the words you sing to remind yourself of God's goodness.
O God beyond all praising,
ReplyDeletewe worship you today
and sing the love amazing
that songs cannot repay;
for we can only wonder
at every gift you send,
at blessings without number
and mercies without end:
we lift our hearts before you
and wait upon your word,
we honor and adore you,
our great and mighty Lord.
The flower of earthly splendor
in time must surely die,
its fragile bloom surrender
to you the Lord most high;
but hidden from all nature
the eternal seed is sown -
though small in mortal stature,
to heaven's garden grown:
for Christ the Man from heaven
from death has set us free,
and we through him are given
the final victory!
Then hear, O gracious Savior,
accept the love we bring,
that we who know your favor
may serve you as our king;
and whether our tomorrows
be filled with good or ill,
we'll triumph through our sorrows
and rise to bless you still:
to marvel at your beauty
and glory in your ways,
and make a joyful duty
our sacrifice of praise.
I've always loved "On the wings of a dove."
ReplyDeleteBest thoughts and prayers to you and yours.

Gina,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful hymn! I don't think I've ever heard this one. I especially love the message of Jesus abiding in time of trials. Thank God, we have a Saviour who cares. Please know you and your family are in our prayers. Warm hugs my sister in Christ.
How wonderful it is to abide with His Holiness...
ReplyDeleteI haven't thought of that song for many many years--we sisters used to sing it together. Thanks for sharing it. There's nothing exceeding the "...peace...that the world never gave."
ReplyDeleteThis brought a flood of memories of singing this hymn during my childhood. What assurance to know He will never leave us. I'm very thankful for the hymns I learned growing up. Continuing to pray for you all.
ReplyDeleteHave just put a card in the mail to you all, with words to a favourite hymn of mine. You will have to wait till it arrives to see what it is :) xx
ReplyDeleteDear Gina,
ReplyDeleteWords escape me, but know that you are all in my thoughts and especially my prayers. May the God of all comfort bless you and keep you, sister in Christ.
Marney
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

They say sometimes you win some
Sometimes you lose some
And right now, right now I'm losing bad
I've stood on this stage night after night
Reminding the broken it'll be alright
But right now, oh right now I just can't
It's easy to sing
When there's nothing to bring me down
But what will I say
When I'm held to the flame
Like I am right now
I know You're able and I know You can
Save through the fire with Your mighty hand
But even if You don't
My hope is You alone
They say it only takes a little faith
To move a mountain
Well good thing
A little faith is all I have, right now
But God, when You choose
To leave mountains unmovable
Oh give me the strength to be able to sing
It is well with my soul
I know You're able and I know You can
Save through the fire with Your mighty hand
But even if You don't
My hope is You alone
I know the sorrow, and I know the hurt
Would all go away if You'd just say the word
But even if You don't
My hope is You alone
You've been faithful, You've been good
All of my days
Jesus, I will cling to You
Come what may
‘Cause I know You're able
I know You can
I know You're able and I know You can
Save through the fire with Your mighty hand
But even if You don't
My hope is You alone
I know the sorrow, I know the hurt
Would all go away if You'd just say the word
But even if You don't
My hope is You alone
It is well with my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul
And Oh My Soul, by Casting Crowns:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjNZf878ISQ
"Oh My Soul"
Oh, my soul
Oh, how you worry
Oh, how you're weary, from fearing you lost control
This was the one thing, you didn't see coming
And no one would blame you, though
If you cried in private
If you tried to hide it away, so no one knows
No one will see, if you stop believing
Oh, my soul
You are not alone
There's a place where fear has to face the God you know
One more day, He will make a way
Let Him show you how, you can lay this down
'Cause you're not alone
Here and now
You can be honest
I won't try to promise that someday it all works out
'Cause this is the valley
And even now, He is breathing on your dry bones
And there will be dancing
There will be beauty where beauty was ash and stone
This much I know
I'm not strong enough, I can't take anymore
(You can lay it down, you can lay it down)
And my shipwrecked faith will never get me to shore
(You can lay it down, you can lay it down)
Can He find me here
Can He keep me from going under
Oh, my soul
You're not alone
Praying for strength and peace for you all,
Robin
Amen. What a beautiful hymn. May God's peace and rest be with you all.

Hello, Gina. I just discovered your blog from another blog I had visited. My heart goes out to you and your husband and sweet children. I have added your husband to my prayer list. Your attitude and sweet spirit are so prevalent here. The doctors may have their diagnosis but God has the final word. God bless you all.
ReplyDeleteOver the mountains to the sea,
ReplyDeleteYour river runs with love for me
and I will open up my heart
and let your healing set me free
I will sing of Your Love forever,
I will sing of Your Love forever
Dear Gina ~ I admit it, I am one of those lurker types. I read your blog right before and after the birth of your baby (now toddling, I see), then lost contact and life got in the way. Just by chance I found you again, the very day your sweet husband had surgery. My heart aches for you and yours and I hope you feel the love of all who write here. I am praying for all of you as you travel this road, prayers for courage, discernment, peace and comfort. Thank you for sharing this absolutely beautiful hymn. God Bless. Mindy
ReplyDeleteHi Gina,
ReplyDeleteI have quietly followed your blog for awhile now.Thank you for sharing this beautiful hymn. May you find strength in Him and I will keep you and your dear family in prayer. Psalm 121: 1-2

My Savior, My God -- Aaron Shust
ReplyDeleteI am not skilled to understand
what God has willed, what God has planned
I only know at his right hand
stands one who is my savior.
I take him at his word and deed
Christ died to save me, this I read
and in my heart I find the need
of Him to be my savior
That He would leave His place on high
and come for sinful men to die
you count it strange, so once did I
before I knew my Savior.
Yes, living, dying, let me bring
my strength, my solace from this spring
that He who lives to be my King
once died to be my Savior.
That he would leave his place on high
and come for sinful men to die
you count it strange, so once did I
before I knew my savior.
My Savior loves, my Savior lives
My Savior's always there for me
My God He was, my God He is
My God He's always going to be.
I like the hymn "Trust His Heart" as sung by the Esh family. It is a great reminder to just trust your life to the One who knows everything and really cares about you; especially hearing it sung by a family that definitely has been through terrible tragedy.
ReplyDeleteWe used the Hymn, "Trusting Jesus" at our baby daughter's funeral 5 1/2 years ago. I always feel like God sends a hug my way when I hear it on the radio. I try to remember to thank Him for having a place for her to go and for Him taking care of her.
ReplyDeleteTrusting Jesus
1.Simply trusting ev'ry day,
Trusting thro' a stormy way;
Even when my faith is small,
Trusting Jesus that is all.
Chorus:
Trusting as the moments fly,
Trusting as the days go by;
Trusting Him whate'er befall,
Trusting Jesus that is all.
2. Singing if my way is clear,
Praying if the path be drear,
If in danger, for Him call;
Trusting Jesus that is all.
3. Trusting Him while life shall last,
Trusting Him till earth shall pass;
Till within the jasper wall,
Trusting Jesus that is all.
E. Page/Ira B. Sankey
I pray for you and your family along with the doctors and medical team.
