The "Miss Kim" lilac is a dwarf lilac. It grows slower than most lilacs and keeps a neater more rounded shape, even without pruning. After thirteen years, it is nearly six feet tall, which is about it ultimate height.
"Miss Kim" blooms later than most lilacs. I love that weeks after my other lilacs have quit blooming, "Miss Kim" opens up her fragrant blooms. With the bedroom windows open, I can smell it indoors.
And since my birthday is mid-May, nearly every year it blooms on my birthday, reminding me of Ed's gift those years ago.
Almost every year I try to get a photo with the children in front of the lilac. Today I scrounged through the photo files. It was fun to see the growth of both the lilac bush and my children.
We just won't mention what the years have done to me.
2009
2011
2012
2014
And this year, 2015.
There is always so much joy in the pictures of you and your family! I love lilacs and was happy to learn about the Miss Kim variety. Often times a lilac grows too large for many yards.
ReplyDeleteOh how sweet!! Your family is beautiful! I just love lilacs..I have never heard of that variety. I wonder if it would well up here? I am in zone 5. Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteI think it is rather hardy. I'm zone six and it does excellent here.

I love this! I've tried to take a picture of our family every year around the time of our anniversary. I love looking back through the years but I understand how hard it is to make it happen every year! :)
ReplyDeletePS I think the years have been very kind to you! ;)
Great family picture!
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely with your sweet children and lilac, regardless of years! It seems like lilacs are one of those plants that often hold great memories. I took a transplant from my parents just before they moved into a retirement community last year, and that plant itself started at my grandparents farm. Now I am hoping it will decide to bloom someday; we've had two springs so far with no blooms, but the plant itself looks OK so maybe next year! - Suz
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...........family and lilacs.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!

What a lovely family! I love seeing how the kids grew over the years (and the lilac bush too, lol)
ReplyDeleteI think everyone looks great! You do not age. The children are beautiful. I love the matching outfits!

What great FUN to see Miss Kim and the family grow!! Beautiful, ALL!! Happy Birthday!!
ReplyDeleteAnd matching dresses, so sweet!
ReplyDeleteThis is precious!!
ReplyDeleteYou look as young as the first picture :) That is a neat idea to take a picture at the same spot!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday and yes the years have been kind to you! I love the matching dresses, something my grandmother did for all of us cousins. Lilacs are one of my favorites, probably because purple is my fave color. Beautiful family and the photos are fun to look back on. I started giving my grown kids a cd every year with all the family photos of one or two types. One year it was 30 years of Christmas photos, one year it was all our trips to the grandparents homes, keep it up, they do appreciate it later on!! (as do we!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat idea for a gift! Photos are priceless!

Lovely pictures of your family and lilac. This is my favorite time as the lilacs, the iris, the lily of the valley and the bridal veil spirea are all in full bloom. Smells delicious everywhere and with the warmer weather and open windows the scent comes right into the house.
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful family. I actually think you haven't aged between the photos!
ReplyDeleteAll of you are too kind!
DeleteOr maybe you just can't see all the gray at this distance!

Look up Proverbs 16:31 :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful collection of photos!! My husband's aunt gave us a beautiful bush as a wedding gift. It blossoms right around our anniversary.
ReplyDeleteMiss Kim's are one of my favorites as well. I received mine as a gift for Mother's Day about 12 years ago.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lovely family. Thank you for sharing the pictures.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday. What a wonderful and lasting gift your husband gave you,
ReplyDeleteI love your family photos.
Lovely photos and lovely memories to have in the years to come, but do have ask why you'd dress your little girls in the same style & color dress as you, an adult, wear?
ReplyDeleteJoycelyn
The last picture is actually the only matching dresses we have right now. The girls thought it would be fun to all have matching dresses. We like to dress our girls in feminine and modest styles, but usually they don't have the same color or style.

Beautiful family pictures. What a treasure.
ReplyDeleteGod has truly blessed you with a beautiful family. Blessings on you all Alene
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful family!
ReplyDeleteI do find it mildly frustrating that we tend to emphasise the lessening of conformity to a worldly standard of beauty in adult women in such photographs, rather than deepening of character and growth in grace and maturity!
ReplyDelete(Now to see if I can practice what I preach when I start going grey! ><)
