The Lord is Good

Thanks so much for praying for our daughter's eyesight.

On Friday we visited the eye specialist again and he was impressed by how much better it looked in 24 hours. He said that she will probably have permanent scar damage. I asked him how the scar will affect her eyesight. He said that since it is not affecting her eyesight now, it probably won't ever. But if it was a couple millimeters higher, closer to the center of her eye, it would be completely different report. "She is blessed," he said.

I was so glad the doctor said "blessed" and not "lucky" because we truly do feel blessed by God.

Today (Saturday) her eye looks even better than yesterday. She can open it wider and she doesn't shield her eyes with her hands when she walks into a bright room. The doctor said that light sensitivity is common in eye injuries. Yesterday she didn't want to go outside, even with sunglasses on, but today she has been running in and out almost like normal.

It is so good to see our cheerful, bright-eyed daughter return! I admit that my faith was rather shaky this week. When Ed walked out the door with a sobbing child with swollen eyes, I wondered if she'd ever see again. I thought over all the things I could have done differently to avoid the accident. Definitely a "bad-mommy" moment.

I had to cling to the knowledge that God is sovereign and always good. He loves Brooke even more than we do and can take anything that happens to her and work it out for His glory. The life of Fanny Crosby, the blind lady who wrote so many beloved hymns, came to mind. I'm so glad we can trust God to bring healing, or peace, whichever He has for us.

Thanks again for remembering us.

  3. I am so very happy to hear the good news - blessed indeed! It's easy to berate ourselves when something bad happens and question ourselves endlessly with "what if"'s and "if only"'s, but you are right - God is sovereign and he loves your daughter immeasurably!

  8. I am so happy she is doing well!! It is so upsetting when our little ones face injuries :( I understand about the pain an eye injury can cause. My 2 year old daughter accidentally poked me in the eye in February. I had to see a cornea specialist as my abrasion was not healing correctly. I am scheduled for surgery next week to help my eye heal correctly. I will keep your little one in our prayers :) Blessings, Jamie

  10. Glad the Lord answered the prayers so quickly. Things like this do test one's faith. But I am sure you learned some things from this, and will be better for it?

  12. Oh yes!! Praising the Lord with you and your family and blogger friends!! And thank you Gina, for sharing. Your faith and family are a beacon to many, and the ups and downs remind us all that we NEED that faith in our lives. The Lord is using you and your family, and I know that as much as you rejoice in that, it's plenty uncomfortable at times! Blessed Jesus, continue to guide and protect Gina and her lovely family! I think Brooke was 2 when I started following your blog, and when you took a break recently, I went to look at archives, and read the story of Brooke's birth! Your beautiful Easter baby!!! So very happy she's doing well!!!!

  14. What wonderful news! Thank you for this update. I'll keep praying. I hope your baby girl keeps improving beyond what the doctor expects; that can happen with young children.

  16. Thank you - Lord!!

I read your first post (left praying...) and could totally relate to those feelings of the said, "bad-mommy" moment, that you mentioned here on this post.

God is Sovereign...and HE is the Healer. Amen!

  21. I just stopped by to check on what was happening around your homestead and in your kitchen. I was not expecting this and I'm rather selfishly happy that I saw this post at the same time that I saw the first post.

I have had several corneal infections over the decades and I can assure you that sunlight - any light, really - is very difficult to take and very painful. Fortunately, with the right medicine, those infections heal within a day. I'm not sure how your daughter's eye was treated, but apparently the same type of healing is occurring with her. BTW, the lighter the eye color, the more sensitive they are to light.

I'm so happy for you that God blessed her with healing and with the medical professionals to help Him here on earth.

  22. Hi Gina, I can so relate. My 2 yr. old son sprayed bleach in his eyes. It was terrifying too. His eyes are fine. Glad your daughter's are healing also. Accidents happen, it's part of life....

  25. So thankful for your daughter's healing. Oh, what anguish that must have caused you, but the Lord is so gracious to watch over these precious little ones He's entrusted to our care. We just cannot protect them from everything. But so glad to hear she is doing better.

  26. Hi Gina - so sorry to hear about your daughter's accident and glad that it looks like her eyesight is not damaged. It must have been a terribly frightening time for you all. Little Son fell down some steps a few years ago and seemed alright at first but then after a minute lost consciousness. The paramedics thought he may have had a neck or back injury. After a trip to ER strapped to a back board etc. it was found that he had 'just' fainted from the shock of falling and was absolutely fine. It was such a frightening time for us so I can understand how you are all feeling. I hope your little one is completely recovered soon. Lily. xxx
