Crisp Sugar Cookie

Continuing to share whole grain cookie recipes...

My favorite cookies are peanut butter or chocolate but I  also enjoy a simple buttery sugar cookie.  This is a recipe I received from a friend years ago.

1 1/4 cup sugar
1 cup butter, softened
Cream well.

2 eggs
Add and beat well.

1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
2 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp vanilla
Add and mix well. Chill for 1/2 hour. Roll into small balls. Bake at 350 degrees for 9 minutes.

  1. Good morning, Gina! Hope this day finds you feeling much, much stronger. . . . . . . I love sugar cookies. When I first started milling my own grains, it was a revelation to me that you could make treats that actually tasted good, besides being good for me. We have become so accustomed to pizza crust made with whole durum milled at home, that when we had pizza at a restaurant on a day trip recently it tasted disappointingly bland. We wouldn't go back to all white flour for anything! ~Liz

  5. HI Gina,
Was wondering can you use this recipe for cookie cut outs? Would it roll out well? Thanks for sharing!

I doubt this dough would work for cut outs. It is a little too soft.
