Arise, my soul, arise; shake off thy guilty fears;
A bleeding Sacrifice in my behalf appears;
Before the throne my Surety stands,
Before the throne my Surety stands,
My name is written on His hands.
He ever lives above, for me to intercede;
His all redeeming love, His precious blood, to plead:
His blood atoned for all our race,
His blood atoned for all our race,
And sprinkles now the throne of grace.
Five bleeding wounds He bears; received on Calvary;
They pour effectual prayers; they strongly speak for me:
"Forgive him, O forgive," they cry,
"Forgive him, O forgive," they cry,
"Nor let that ransomed sinner die!"
My God is reconciled; His pardoning voice I hear;
He owns me for His child; I can no longer fear:
With confidence I now draw nigh,
With confidence I now draw nigh,
And “Father, Abba, Father,” cry.
I love this song! One Sunday morning the preacher shared a heavy message focusing on judgement and I was dreading the "Great Judgment Morning" song that I thought was coming. The song leader got up and led this one and I could have wept for the joy of it! The assurance we can have in Jesus's sacrifice is truly an indescribable gift!
ReplyDeleteI know this song with a different tune. Some of the words are different, also. Maybe you would also be blessed by this version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYSQG1FZwE0
ReplyDeleteYour blog always gives my heart a warm feeling. I feel painfully far from God sometimes, but loving, perseverent people like you help serve as a bridge back to Him. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGina, thank you so much for the hymn entries you post. Usually I haven't heard of the hymns you reference, and I often end up using them during our music appreciation time, as I have with this one. Thank you so much!!

P.S. Here is another version of this one!
