Music of Christmas

The music is one of my favorite parts of the Christmas season. Every year I seem to have a different favorite song, but I always enjoy revisiting with old friends.

Here are some videos of some of my favorite Christmas music. Some of these videos I look forward to listening/watching each year.

(If you are reading this by email or feed reader you may need to click over to the blog to view the videos.)

How Should a King Come? (My children's favorite.)

In the Bleak Midwinter (This one makes me tear up.)

Hallelujah Chorus (Another that my children beg to listen to each December)

O Love That Will Not Let Me Go (Not a Christmas song,  but one of my all-time favorite songs sung in a new recording by Oasis.)

What songs are you humming?

  2. Beautiful. I'm a little tired of the "Mary Did You Know", but it's still a beautiful song, however "O Love That Will Not Let Me Go" one of my favorite hymns and so beautifully done! Thank you for the encouragement and sharing these beautiful songs with us.

  3. The Mary Did You Know was great, there are several great artists doing the multi-part videos.....a fun twist on great hymns.

If you haven't seen it before Google the Singing Contractors. They are 2 contractors who sing and tape themselves while on the job. They are pretty good. They have a version of Mary Did You Know also.

    Merry Christmas!

  5. Wow, I love the first one! I've never heard it before.

Over here we've been mostly singing "Australian Christmas Carols" this year - there were fifteen of them published as sheet music in the 60s and they became firm favourites in my mother's family. They're fairly well known in the homeschool community around where I am, but not much by anyone else. Anyway, "The Three Drovers" and "The North Wind/ Christmas Day" are the ones we usually sing the most, but this year "Here At Last/ The Day That Christ Was Born", "Once Again It's Noel-Time" and "Merry, Merry, Merry Christmas" seem to be the favourites. I believe only one recording was ever made, so it can only be found here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35B9OeZkl5w) and you just have to scroll through like it's a record (which it is) until you find the song.

Oh, the other one we've been singing a lot recently is "On That Very First Christmas" - it's gone down very well with the kids at the primary school I work at, it seems to suit all ages (3-12) very well, and they've devised actions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1e6BI1HJpg

  6. My favorite is "This is Christmas" by Kutless. They do a great version of "Mary Did You Know" as well.

Here's a video for This is Christmas.
