Sisters' July Reading Challenge

Looking forward to another month of great reading!

This post contains affiliate links.

1. Read a magazine from start to finish.

If you don't subscribe to a magazine, pick one up at the store on a topic that interests you.

2. Read a book with a color in the title.

For example: The Blue Castle by L. M. Montgomery

The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy

Red Scarf Girl by Ji Li Jiang

3. Read a book of essays.

For example, authors such as Dorcas Smucker and Elizabeth Elliot have compiled books of essays. Or books with a collection of essays from various authors such as The Living of These Days.

4. Read a book or listen to an audio book in a vehicle.

5. Read beside water (ocean, lake, river, pool, creek, or lawn sprinkler).

I can't wait to hear what you enjoy reading in July.

  1. Hi, Gina,

I love the reading challenge ideas you've been sharing. I'm going to have to try some of these, especially reading a whole magazine. I rarely read a whole magazine, except Lemonade for the chronically ill. Maybe I'll pick up a copy of Answers or Birds and Blooms and read the whole thing. Voice of the Martyrs is another good magazine that I enjoy. Have you ever read Keep a Quiet Heart by Elisabeth Elliot? That's a great book of essays. I also enjoy essays on Dorcas Smucker's blog.

  2. I just had to share with you, The Blue Castle is a very favorite book for generations of my family. It started with my mother and her sister, then me, my daughter and granddaughter. And hopefully my great grandaughter as she grows. When we give the book as a gift, this is what is wrtten in it. Mine was a gift from my mother for Christmas, 1965 with this poem
    A cozy chair
    A soft, warm light
    And "our" book
    For a stormy night
I still reread this book at least once a year.
Whatever would we do with out good books to read.

  3. Ive read The Red Scarf Girl, a terrific, well written story that takes place in China. It is especially enlightening in today's day where we see the Chinese influences in many countries, including ours.

    1. I've actually never read The Red Scarf Girls but it was a gift to my daughter and is on my to-be-read list. (Which is far too long.)
