Blessings

Counting blessings...

Are two-year-olds or newborns sweeter?

I can't decide.

For many, last week's snow storm wasn't considered a blessing. I remember life on the farm well enough to know that it causes a lot of work.

But when it is a weekend and all my family is snuggled indoors, I love seeing huge drifts swirl around the house.

Ed said that he had a perfect birthday on the Saturday of the storm - and with this as his view - who could blame him?

After it finally quit snowing, a friend from church helped to dig us out with his skidloader, saving Ed hours of shoveling time.

And made huge snow piles for the children.

I haven't been doing much more than holding down the couch these last weeks. With friends and family blessing us with meals, I've been spending my time enjoying the baby, reading to the children, and, of course, watching the snow. At this rate, I'll become lazy.

At three weeks old, our little one has gained two pounds already. Could she be
 growing on kisses?

Yesterday Ed and the children spent a couple hours of sledding with their cousins.

While I enjoyed the sunset from the warmth of the indoors.

And counted blessings.

What are you grateful for today?

  1. I am grateful both my kids who don't live at home (1 in college and the other at her first apt) did o.k. with the snow storm in PA. Both got over two feet of snow while here at home, we got two inches. Your baby is adorable and love seeing her bathed in the sink. Cheryl

  2. Aww..your children are all sweet, as well as adorable! You look well as well as happy! I wish we had gotten some of that snow..but it was all south and east of here. Our baby arrived on Tuesday. She weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz. and was 21 in. long. Her name is Clara Hope. She has alot of hair..which is odd for us. All the babies are usually fairly bald! She is so precious and mom and baby are doing well.

  3. This snow storm was a perfect time to stay inside and enjoy, we did shovel several times so it didn't get ahead of us, but we had visiting time with neighbors too....so it was all good. Love seeing the pictures of all of you, have a great week!

I am grateful to be feeling better as we look forward to our own baby (and your pictures make me all the more anxious, even though we still have a bit of a wait ahead!) 9. All your children are growing so fast, but you can really see it in the three week old.
Your snow is beautiful to look at, as long as you don't have to drive in it.lol!
It helps us to remember how blessed we are to have food and a warm home.

  10. We had a beautiful day here today in northern California, but this evening the wind is blowing so hard and cold. I am so grateful for our warm home with a wood fired stove for the heat. We seem to be the ones to loose our power first, and have it restored last. That's one of the perils of living in the country.

  15. She is quite a blessing! A year ago, we welcomed a baby girl into our home. Our oldest is a girl, and then we have six boys, so there are 16 years between our girls. Everyone in the family is loving having a baby girl in the house--and I can relate to your comment, too, about babies and 2-year-olds both being so cute. God bless!

  18. I love seeing the photos of your beautiful family. Thanks for sharing. I am awaiting the arrival of our first grandchild- only six more weeks or so to go! I took you up on your suggestion that someone of any background could attend a Mennonite church. Well that was in the summer, and I couldn't have been more warmly welcomed. I am so appreciative that you suggested being welcome to do so on your blog. God bless you and your family.
