Garlic Cheese Biscuits

Another variation of the Whole Wheat Biscuit recipe.

This recipe is an attempt at copying Red Lobster Biscuits. Use white flour if you want them similar to the restaurant version, but whole wheat flour still makes a yummy biscuit. I like these dropped onto a baking sheet instead of rolled and cut but you can make them how you wish.

Garlic Cheese Biscuits

2 3/4 cups whole wheat or white flour (you may need more flour is using white)
4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
 1 T parsley
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 cup cold butter, cut into 8 pieces
1 tsp honey or sugar
1 1/2 cup buttermilk, plain yogurt, or kefir
1 cup shredded cheese
Mix flour, baking powder, and seasonings in mixing bowl or food processor. Add butter and mix or pulse until butter is pea size or smaller.

If using food processor, dump flour mixture into a bowl. Stir in cheese. Add honey and buttermilk and mix briefly with a spoon. Do not over mix.

Drop dough onto a greased baking sheet. Makes 12-15 biscuits depending upon the size. If you wish, brush tops with milk. Bake at 450 degrees for 12 minutes.

  1. When you first posted the basic biscuit recipe not too long ago, I made them then and added grated cheese. They went great with our soup, and we enjoyed them very much! These add even more tasty extras and will have to try them sometime. When I made mine, I used half whole wheat and half white flour (because I only have the not as nice store bought w.w. flour!). Thanks for sharing! I hadn't made biscuits in a long time! Shauna

I have made tortillas but am not so good at it yet. If I ever get good at it - I'll share how I do it!

  4. Catching up (sort of) and wanted to say Hello! I also had to go back and read/look at your pics from doughnut day. Love the many fun family traditions you all enjoy together. Whose wonderfully big kitchen do you use for making doughnuts?
Thinking I *need* to try your recipe soon ;-) but I remember now that my dd made a tasty fried batch of donuts a month ago, so I'd better wait a bit longer...

    Blessings! :)

    1. Melanie -
Hi! Glad to have you back!

We use my mom's kitchen, with some extra tables set up in the next room. We learned the hard way that plugging in several deep fryers throws off the breakers so now we run extension cords from the garage!

  6. Do you use salted butter? Just wondering because if it is unsalted, then using salted butter may mean I need to cut out the 1 tsp of salt in the recipe. Thanks so much. Julie julietesterman@aol.com

    2. They were SO good. My family thought they tasted like Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits (which we haven't had in years.) They were happy! We eat at home for every meal and only go out once in a blue moon these days, so these type of recipes are very very helpful. Thanks again.
