One of the joys of summer is the flowers. If I only take the time to walk out with a pair of scissors, God's beautiful creation gives abundant bouquets. The above arrangement includes blue larkspur, shasta daisies, coral bells, heleopsis, pink yarrow, and feverfew.
This bouquet includes monarda, Russian sage, mint, shasta daisies, oregano, and yarrow.
All these flowers are easy to grow (they have to be to survive my neglect) and most are perennials and return year after year with little care.

ReplyDeleteI like little mixed bunches like yours - especially mixed with some herbs. I just love that idea. Gina, your neglect is definitely less than mine. My garden had come to nothing this year (or last, or the one before that!) and I have no idea what I am doing wrong. Maybe when we move I'll have better luck. I could do with a few gardener friends to give me some encouragement I think. xxx

I can't have cut flowers in the house because most of them set off my husband's hayfever/asthma. But I do love to see a few in the garden. I love to see the spring flowers coming in the garden after the dark winter and then the variety of summer colours. Lovely! If I'm given a bunch of flowers, I usually pass them on to a friend and make their day and I get the pleasure of seeing that too.
ReplyDeleteBoth my daughters were here last weekend and they went on a long walk and when I got home from work they had put together a beautiful bouquet and had even found some wild roses to put in. It included mountain laurel, daisy, roses, corn flower, lupine and many other "weed" flowers that I'm not familiar with though I ought to know the names of. It was so nice and lasted quite a while on my little table. I'm not sure if anyone took a picture, but wish they had. It is a pleasure to see all the flowers this year. They are doing really well with a good mixture of rain and sunshine. Thanking God, for the beauty of the world He created.

ReplyDeleteI love zinnias too but for some reason, none of the zinnia seeds I planted came up this year! I have a lovely bouquet of zinnias that a friend gave me sitting on my table right now.

You've got a good eye for floral arranging, Gina - that first bouquet is beautiful! I stick with single flowers (all roses, etc.) because I struggle with arrangements. :-) You've inspired me again!
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine had a little weekend cabin in the mountains. To keep down yard maintainance, he bought a large bag of wildflower seeds and just scattered them everywhere. Nothing was lovlier than sitting on the back porch and looking out on a giant nature's bouquet. On an especially good day, some deer would join the party. For anyone with a large yard and a dislike of mowing, I would highly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteMine last for a few weeks in a vase. I pick early in the morning. They last longer. You probably have enough time to plant some more. I usually just throw them out on the ground and they come up in a few days.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are very pretty! I really like my hydrangea bush for cut flowers all summer for the house and to give away. Also like to dry them too!
