12 New Things Challenge

Ever wish you  would have time to learn something new?

Like a Warm Cup of Coffee is doing a 12 New Things Challenge. The idea is to challenge yourself to learn twelve new things in the next year, one for each month.

Is there twelve new things I'd like to learn? It didn't take long to come up with my list. But the problem is that  I don't want to wait a year- I want to do all these things in the next month! Hmmm...could that be why I get too many things started and nothing completed? Or feel like my mind is whirling in a million directions and there is so much more I want to do that I never find time to do?

I can see the value in focusing on one new project each month. So, even though I'm a month late, I'm jumping into the 12 New Things Challenge.

Here is my list...

August - Read Getting Organized in the Google Era and utilize some of the tools it describes. - in progress

September - make homemade laundry detergent

October - sew a head covering that I'm truly pleased with

November - purchase a digital scrap-booking program and learn to use it

December - make homemade lotion

January - make homemade soap

February - make the perfect whole wheat artisan sourdough bread

March - make whole wheat cinnamon raisin bagels

April - make mozzarella cheese

May - make homemade garden fertilizer

June - dry kitchen herbs for winter use

July - make a fluffy whole wheat biscuit

Some of these projects are a quick afternoon project (I think). Others I know will take hours of experiments and possibly quite a few failures before success. And some may not ever see success but I'd like to at least  make an attempt.

I'll keep you posted on the results. Anyone want to join me? I'd love to see your list of 12 New Things!

What a great idea! Some of your "12 Things" would be on my list, too -- making mozzarella cheese, making soap and making lotion. I'd also like to learn how to sew my own market bag, make butter and build a compost bin. Looking forward to reading about your progress.

I liked alot of your ideas. We started making our own laundry soap well over a year ago and I am still amazed at how much money we save.It is super easy too.

What a fantastic list Gina! I'm really looking forward to seeing your progress this year and I'm really hoping you find a recipe for those biscuits to share! I haven't been able to find one just yet that doesn't compromise on texture.

I love this idea. You have a wonderful blog and I am sure I will be back often. I will probably be posting my 12 things challenge in a couple of days...when I figure it out. One of my 12 will be to learn to make crackers although we tried once they were only okay...yours are beautiful.

Quite a list! The covering making is something I really do need to do, three of us need coverings....and of course the part of getting them to turn out right would be a year-long progect!

The laundry soap one should be EASY. I use Michelle Duggar's recipe, you can find it on your website. Takes about 15 minutes, is terribly cheap, and it works! Have fun...

Great Idea to challenge and stretch yourself. Perhaps I'll make a list as well....have to think on that. I don't know if I could narrow it down to 12.

Saw you wanted a scrapbook software. May I suggest software at www.scrapbookmax.com. It's very easy to use. Also, I signed up to get a daily newsletter at www.scrapgirls.com and with the newsletter each day comes ideas, helps and a free graphic download. I have collected hundreds of freebies over the last few years. You can see some of my scrapbooks created with the program at http://www.scrapbookflair.com/mustangmumma. Scrapbookflair.com is also a great place for graphics and ideas, as well as a great printing service for your created scrapbook pages.

Best of luck on your list!

awesome idea ... I have a running list in my "control panel" notebook of things I need to learn how to do - I just need to figure out which month works best for each, and post my list of 12 things! ( even though I'm wayyy behind the real schedule!)
